What Florida Inspectors Look For

In Florida, the DBPR Division of Hotels and Restaurants licenses and inspects public food service establishments. Its rules require effective measures against the entrance, breeding or presence of rodents, flies, roaches and other vermin, and buildings that are rodent-proofed. Inspection results can be searched online, and emergency closures are published.

Our program targets those exact problems: roaches in kitchen equipment, flies breeding in floor drains, and rats and mice getting in through gaps. See all our commercial services.

Pest Risks for Restaurants and Bars in South Florida

A restaurant gives pests everything they need: food, water and warm places to hide. German cockroaches can come in with grocery bags, and cockroaches breed in corrugated cardboard boxes, so a storeroom full of cases can be a starting point. Indoors, cockroaches concentrate around garbage cans and refrigerators. American cockroaches live in sewers and drainage systems, and UF/IFAS lists restaurants among the places where they are common.

South Florida’s weather adds pressure. The wet season runs from May 15 to October 15, and flooding displaces rodents, which makes infestations more likely. Roof rats, the most abundant rodent pest in Florida, nest in palm trees and attics and travel 100 to 150 feet from their nest to feed. House flies breed in kitchen waste and garbage and can go from egg to adult in 7 to 10 days in warm weather.

Where We Focus in a Restaurant

Kitchen line and dish area

We check under and behind cooking equipment, dish machines, sinks and floor drains, where heat, grease and moisture hide cockroaches and breed flies.

Bar and beverage stations

We look at bar drains, soda lines, bottle storage and recycling bins, where spilled sugar and empty cans draw fruit flies and ants.

Dry storage and walk-ins

We inspect shelving, wall lines and cardboard cases for droppings, gnaw marks and cockroaches hiding in boxes.

Back door and dumpster area

We check the rear entrance, dumpster pad and grease bins for gaps under the door and waste that draws flies and rodents.

What Inspectors Expect

Florida restaurants are inspected under the 2017 FDA Food Code, which the state has adopted by rule. Your kitchen has to be ready on an ordinary Tuesday, not only on a day you expect a visit:

  • Each licensed food service establishment gets at least one and no more than four routine inspections a year, on a schedule based on risk.
  • Inspectors may enter the establishment at any reasonable time.
  • Windows used for ventilation must have tight-fitting 16-mesh screens, unless other effective vermin control is used.
  • Pesticides may only be used in compliance with Chapter 7 of the Food Code.

Our structural recommendations cover the gaps, screens and doors we find, so you know what to fix.

Restaurant & Bar Pest Control: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does restaurant pest control cost?

It depends on the size of your kitchen and dining areas, the pests involved and how often we service the location. We start with a free inspection, so you get a clear program and a quote before any work begins. New customers get $25 off the first service.

Can you schedule service around our hours?

Yes. Tell us your opening hours and busy periods, and we set up scheduled visits around them, so treatments are planned around your service. If you spot activity between visits, call us: we respond within 24 hours, guaranteed.

Will this help me pass a health inspection?

No company can promise an inspection result, because it also depends on daily sanitation and storage. What we do is find and treat pest activity, correct harborage areas and entry points, and give you sanitation and structural recommendations, which are the conditions Florida inspectors check for.

Why do roaches keep coming back in my kitchen?

German cockroaches breed nonstop indoors. Each egg case holds 30 to 40 eggs, and the female carries it until just before it hatches, so a few roaches become many fast. Spraying what you see is not enough. We target where they hide and the conditions that feed them.

Do you service restaurant groups with several locations?

Yes. We serve restaurants and bars throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and the Keys. Each location gets its own inspection and a program built on what we find there. If one site has a problem between visits, call us: we respond within 24 hours, guaranteed.
