Indian Creek Village is a private island of a few dozen estates wrapped around a golf course. Pest control here is less about any single bug than about the whole property: large homes, guest houses, docks, dense tropical landscaping and acres of irrigated turf. Toro Pest Management has protected South Florida properties since 1969, and we approach each Indian Creek estate with the planning, discretion and documentation it requires.

Why Indian Creek Village Has Its Own Pest Challenges
With 84 residents at the 2020 census, Indian Creek Village is a very small municipality. It occupies a man-made island in Biscayne Bay, with the bay to the west, Indian Creek to the south and east, and Indian Creek Lake to the north. The island was created by dredging and was an uninhabited mangrove forest until 1928, when a group of Midwestern businessmen bought it and laid out a country club and home sites. The Florida Legislature incorporated it as a village in 1939.
The island covers less than half a square mile. Most of the land belongs to the Indian Creek Country Club, whose golf course was originally designed by William Flynn and built in 1930. Around it, a single private road about 1.6 miles long serves 41 residential home sites. They are home to about a dozen households. Access is by one bridge from Surfside, with a checkpoint run by the village’s own police department.
That setting is what drives the pests. Estates here commonly combine a large main residence with outbuildings, pools, docks and lavish tropical landscaping. The golf course was rebuilt in 2022 with a new drainage system and two large ponds, and its acres of turf are irrigated. Water on every side, low elevation and a long wet season, from mid-May to mid-October, keep humidity high and soil moist. Termites, roof rats, mosquitoes and landscape pests all find ideal conditions, and with homes this large, small problems can stay hidden for a long time.
Common Pests in Indian Creek Village and Why They Show Up
Subterranean Termites
Irrigated lawns, planting beds and soil kept damp by the surrounding water give the Formosan and Asian subterranean termites exactly the moist soil they need. Their colonies can reach millions of workers and enter through the smallest cracks in a slab, around plumbing or under decks and hardscape.
Signs to watch for: mud tubes on foundations, columns, garden walls and the undersides of decks.
Drywood Termites
Fine millwork, exposed beams, wood ceilings, doors, cabinetry and furniture are all food for drywood termites. UF/IFAS research also shows that boats can carry hidden termite colonies, including the West Indian drywood termite, so yachts and dock structures belong in the inspection.
Signs to watch for: tiny pellets on floors and sills and discarded wings after spring evenings.
Roof Rats
Palms, hedges, vines and fruit trees are prime habitat for roof rats, which nest high and travel along branches to reach roofs, attics and pool houses. Our rodent control on large properties combines exclusion, discreet bait stations and routine monitoring.
Signs to watch for: chewed fruit, droppings in garages and noises in the ceiling.
Mosquitoes
Bromeliads, fountains, birdbaths, pool covers and gutters can all hold water. The Aedes aegypti and the Asian tiger mosquito breed in those small pockets and bite in daylight, right when you are outdoors. Our mosquito control treats resting areas in the landscaping and removes breeding spots.
Whiteflies
Whiteflies feed on ficus and other hedges and can strip a privacy screen of its leaves, leaving behind sticky honeydew and black sooty mold on cars, pavers and furniture. On estates where hedges provide privacy, early treatment matters. See our whitefly control service.
Iguanas and Wildlife
Green iguanas are a nonnative species that has spread across South Florida. They eat ornamental plants and flowers, leave droppings on docks and pool decks, and can dig burrows that undermine seawalls and sidewalks. Our wildlife team also handles raccoons and other animals that get into outbuildings.
Indian Creek estates also call us about ghost ants and white-footed ants in kitchens and bathrooms, lawn pests that brown turf, wasps under eaves and cabanas, and birds roosting on rooflines and boat lifts.
Residential Pest Control in Indian Creek Village
An Indian Creek property is effectively a small campus. Our inspection covers the main residence from attic to foundation, guest houses, staff quarters, garages, pool houses, mechanical rooms, docks and the landscaping that touches every structure. We pay special attention to irrigation, drainage and areas where wood meets soil, since those are where termite and moisture problems begin. We also look at how the landscaping is maintained, because mulch depth, hedge height and pruning schedules all affect how easily pests reach the house.
From there we design a single, coordinated plan: perimeter service, rodent exclusion and monitoring, termite control for both drywood and subterranean species, and seasonal mosquito, whitefly and lawn work. Our residential pest control visits follow a fixed schedule agreed with you or your estate manager, and every visit is documented.
When a residence sits empty for part of the year, pests have time to settle in unnoticed. We can increase inspections while you are away, check guest houses and pool houses that see little use, and give your staff a short list of warning signs to report, such as pellets on sills, droppings in the garage, wings near windows or ants trailing along baseboards. Catching those early keeps treatments small.
If you are building or renovating, ask us early. Pre-construction soil treatment and termite-conscious design details cost far less than repairing hidden damage later. And with our 110% Satisfaction Guarantee, if the bugs come back, so will Toro, at no additional cost to you.
Commercial Pest Control for Indian Creek Village Properties
Indian Creek Village has no commercial district; its non-residential property is the country club and the village’s own facilities. We provide commercial pest control for:
- Food service operations such as club kitchens, dining rooms and event spaces, where health inspections and member expectations leave no room for roaches, flies or rodents.
- Property management firms and estate managers responsible for one or several residences.
- Government facilities such as municipal and public safety buildings.
- Grounds and landscape areas, with whitefly and lawn programs coordinated with your grounds staff.
All commercial service includes written documentation and scheduling around events and operating hours. Our technicians train at the TORO Institute, at our Miami headquarters, where on-staff entomologists teach food safety, sanitation and structural pest management.

Schedule Your Free InspectionIndian Creek Village Pest Control FAQ
Do you provide pest control on Indian Creek island?
Yes. We serve Indian Creek Village, ZIP code 33154. Access to the island is controlled at the bridge from Surfside, so we schedule every visit in advance with the homeowner or estate manager and arrive with the information security needs. We guarantee a response within 24 hours.
What are the biggest pest risks for an estate on the island?
Termites, roof rats and mosquitoes. Irrigated lawns and landscape beds keep the soil moist for subterranean termites; large homes and outbuildings have a lot of wood for drywood termites; mature palms and hedges give roof rats cover; and water features, bromeliads and planters can breed mosquitoes. We inspect all of it and build one plan for the whole property.
Can a yacht bring termites to my home?
It can. A University of Florida study found that recreational boats can carry hidden termite colonies, including the West Indian drywood termite, and that termites can move from an infested boat to nearby buildings. If you keep a boat at your dock, it is worth including it in your termite inspections.
Can you work with our estate manager and staff?
Yes. We can coordinate directly with the estate manager, housekeeper or landscaper. We keep a consistent schedule, send written reports after each visit and flag conditions that attract pests, such as irrigation leaks or vegetation touching the roof.
Do you treat whiteflies and other landscape pests?
Yes. Whiteflies on ficus and other hedges, scale insects and lawn pests can damage expensive landscaping quickly. Our whitefly and lawn spray services treat active infestations, and we can work alongside your landscaping company on timing.
Is the inspection free, and do you speak Spanish?
Yes. The first inspection is free, new customers receive $25 off their first service, and our team speaks Spanish. Call 305-594-4767 or use the Free Inspection form on this page.
