Pest Control in Golden Beach, FL

Golden Beach is a town of private homes and very little else: no condo towers, no shopping strip, just about a mile of houses between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal. That makes pest control here about large yards, mature palms, pools, docks and the house itself. Toro Pest Management has protected South Florida homes since 1969, and we build each Golden Beach plan around the property, the landscaping and the water around it.

Why Golden Beach Has Its Own Pest Challenges

Golden Beach is one of the smallest municipalities in Miami-Dade County. It was settled in 1924 and incorporated on May 23, 1929, and today it covers well under half a square mile at the northern edge of the county, with Sunny Isles Beach to the south, Aventura across the water to the west and Hallandale Beach in Broward County to the north. The 2020 census counted 961 residents.

The town runs about one mile from north to south and only about four blocks from east to west, squeezed between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. High-rise construction and commercial development are not permitted within town limits, so Golden Beach is a residential town of houses rather than towers or shops. In 1981 all but one of the roads into town from A1A were closed, and The Strand remains the way into town, with a police guardhouse at the entrance.

For pests, that means the challenges are those of large, high-value homes on the water. Generous lots usually come with irrigated lawns, pools, tropical landscaping and mature palms. Oceanfront homes face salt air and wind that wear down screens, seals and roof flashing. Intracoastal homes often have docks and boats. And at an elevation close to sea level, soil near the house tends to stay moist, which is ideal for subterranean termites and ants. Homes of very different ages sit side by side, and each has its own weak points.

Common Pests in Golden Beach and Why They Show Up

Roof Rats

Roof rats nest in palm crowns, dense hedges and vines, and they eat fruit, seeds and pet food. On a landscaped Golden Beach lot, they have everything they need, plus a path to the attic along branches and utility lines. Our rodent control includes trapping, exclusion of roof and soffit gaps, and monitoring.

Signs to watch for: scratching overhead at night, half-eaten fruit under trees and droppings in the garage.

Subterranean Termites

The Asian subterranean termite and the Formosan termite live in the soil and build mud tubes to reach wood. Irrigated lawns, planters against the walls and a high water table keep their colonies thriving. Asian subterranean termites swarm in March, often at sunset, and Formosan termites follow from late April.

Signs to watch for: pencil-width mud tubes on the foundation, slab edges or pool equipment pads.

Drywood Termites and Boats

Drywood termites nest in roof framing, exposed beams, wooden doors, cabinets and furniture. UF/IFAS research has also shown that boats can carry hidden termite colonies, including the West Indian drywood termite, and pass them to nearby buildings, so a dock is worth a look during any termite inspection.

Signs to watch for: small heaps of pellets below wood and discarded wings near windows.

Mosquitoes

Lush yards create plenty of hidden water: bromeliads, birdbaths, pool covers, clogged gutters and drains. The Aedes aegypti and the Asian tiger mosquito breed in exactly those spots and bite during the day, which is when you are by the pool. Our mosquito control treats the foliage where adults rest.

Ghost Ants

Ghost ants are tiny, pale and fast. They nest in landscaping, under pavers and in potted plants, then trail into kitchens and bathrooms, especially after heavy rain. Spraying tends to scatter them into new nests, so we rely on baits. More in our ant guide.

Lawn Pests

Chinch bugs, sod webworms and other lawn pests can brown a St. Augustine lawn in a few hot, dry weeks, and sandy coastal soil makes turf more stressed to begin with. Our lawn spray service treats active damage and helps keep the grass healthy through the season.

Signs to watch for: yellowing, dead patches that spread out from sunny edges.

Golden Beach homeowners also call us about whiteflies on ficus and other hedges, wasps nesting under eaves and in cabanas, spiders around outdoor lighting, and wildlife such as iguanas digging along seawalls and in landscape beds.

Residential Pest Control in Golden Beach

A Golden Beach home is rarely just one building. There may be a main house, a guest house, a pool cabana, a garage, a dock and a boat, all on one lot. Our inspection covers all of it: the attic and roofline, the foundation and slab, the landscaping that touches the walls, the irrigation, and outbuildings that are easy to forget.

From there we build a plan around your property. Some homes need a perimeter program and rodent exclusion, others need a termite inspection and a long-term protection plan, and many need both, plus mosquito and lawn service during the wet season. Our residential pest control visits are scheduled around your household and staff, and we leave a written record of what we did.

Seasonal timing matters too. Termite swarms peak in spring, mosquitoes and ants surge in the wet season, and roof rats look for shelter when the weather cools, so a year-round plan adjusts what we focus on from one visit to the next instead of repeating the same treatment.

If you are buying, renovating or rebuilding, ask us about termite protection early. Treating soil before a slab is poured, or inspecting an older home before closing, is much less expensive than repairing hidden damage later. And with the 110% Satisfaction Guarantee, if the bugs come back, so will Toro, at no additional cost to you.

Commercial Pest Control for Golden Beach Businesses

Golden Beach does not allow commercial development, so most of our work in town is residential. Still, the town is surrounded by business districts, and many residents own or manage properties elsewhere in Miami-Dade and Broward. Our commercial pest control serves:

Commercial service includes detailed documentation and scheduling outside business hours. Our technicians train at the TORO Institute at our Miami headquarters, where on-staff entomologists teach food safety, sanitation and structural pest management.

Golden Beach Pest Control FAQ

Do you provide pest control in Golden Beach?

Yes. We serve every street in Golden Beach, ZIP code 33160, from the oceanfront homes on Ocean Boulevard to the Intracoastal properties to the west. We guarantee a response within 24 hours, and we are used to arranging access through gates, house managers and the town's entrance.

Which termites should a Golden Beach homeowner worry about?

Both kinds. Drywood termites live inside dry wood such as roof framing, cabinetry, furniture and wooden doors. The Formosan and Asian subterranean termites nest in the soil and need moisture, which irrigated lawns, pools and landscape beds provide. A UF/IFAS study published in 2026 found that a 2016 forecast is still on track: about half of the structures in urban South Florida could be at risk from these subterranean species by around 2040.

I have a boat at my dock. Can it bring termites to my house?

It can. University of Florida researchers have found that recreational boats can carry hidden termite colonies, including the West Indian drywood termite, and that termites from an infested boat can spread to nearby land. If your house has termites, check the boat too, and the other way around.

What attracts roof rats to my property?

Roof rats are climbers. Palms, fruit trees, dense hedges and vines give them food and shelter, and branches touching the roof give them a path to the attic. Trimming vegetation back from the roofline, picking up fallen fruit and sealing small gaps make a big difference, and we can handle the exclusion and trapping.

Can you work with my house manager while I'm away?

Yes. Some Golden Beach homeowners rely on house managers or staff, especially when they are out of town. We can schedule inspections and service with them, send reports by email and keep you informed wherever you are.

Is the inspection free, and do you have Spanish-speaking technicians?

Yes. The first inspection costs nothing, new customers receive $25 off their first service, and our team speaks Spanish. Call 305-594-4767 or use the Free Inspection form on this page.
