Pest Control in Coral Springs, FL

Coral Springs was planned from a blank map in the 1960s on drained marshland that had been bean fields and cattle pasture, with canals, lakes and strict rules to keep lawns and landscapes looking sharp. Six decades later, many of those first homes are aging, the water is still everywhere and the Everglades are just past the Sawgrass Expressway. Toro Pest Management has served South Florida since 1969, and we help Coral Springs homeowners and businesses protect both the structure and the yard.

Why Coral Springs Has Its Own Pest Challenges

Coral Springs is one of Florida’s early fully planned cities. The land was part of a large tract of marshland that Henry Lyons bought between 1911 and 1939, drained with canals and levees after the floods of 1947, and farmed for green beans before it became cattle land. In December 1961 Coral Ridge Properties bought about 3,870 acres from the Lyons family, the city was chartered on July 10, 1963, and the first lots were sold in 1964. Westinghouse bought Coral Ridge Properties in 1966 and kept building.

From the beginning, the city was planned with strict codes. Coral Springs still enforces tight rules on landscaping, exterior paint colors, roofing materials, signs and boat and RV storage. The result is a city of neat lawns, hedges, lakes and canals in northwestern Broward County, with the Sawgrass Expressway along its northern and western edges and the Everglades beyond. Coral Springs reached residential build-out in 2003 and had about 134,400 residents in the 2020 census.

For pest control, three things stand out. First, water: lakes and canals keep the soil damp and the mosquitoes supplied. Second, age: homes from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s have now been through decades of termite swarm seasons, and older roofs and slabs offer more ways in. Third, landscaping: thousands of irrigated lawns and hedges, held to high HOA standards, give lawn pests, whiteflies and ants plenty to feed on. The city also runs more than 50 parks covering over 675 acres, plus natural areas like Sandy Ridge Sanctuary, so wildlife and outdoor pests are never far from home.

Common Pests in Coral Springs and Why They Show Up

Subterranean Termites

Lakefront and canal-side lots give the invasive Formosan and Asian subterranean termites the moist soil they need. They enter through slab cracks, plumbing and expansion joints, and tenting will not reach them because the colony stays underground. Soil treatments and bait systems are the answer.

Signs to watch for: mud tubes on the slab, in the garage or on interior walls.

Drywood Termites

Many Coral Springs homes are now several decades old, and drywood termites have had time to move into roof framing, eaves, cabinets and furniture. They need no soil contact at all, so a dry attic is no protection.

Signs to watch for: small pellet piles on windowsills and floors.

Lawn Pests

With landscaping standards this strict, a brown patch is a problem. UF/IFAS calls the southern chinch bug the most damaging turfgrass insect in Florida and a major pest of St. Augustine grass, and it hits sunny, water-stressed lawns hardest. Our lawn spray service treats the pests that damage turf, and our whitefly control protects ficus and other hedges.

Mosquitoes

Canals, lakes and retention areas breed mosquitoes in the rainy season, and the Everglades to the west add more. Close to home, the Aedes aegypti mosquito breeds in gutters, plant saucers and pool covers and bites in daylight. Our mosquito control treats resting and breeding sites.

Ants

Ghost ants and white-footed ants nest in landscaping, mulch and wall voids and trail inside for water and sugar. Fire ants mound up in lawns, park fields and along sidewalks. Store-bought sprays often split colonies into more nests. Read our ant guide.

Roof Rats

Mature trees and palms in the older neighborhoods give roof rats a path to the roof, and attic vents and soffit gaps on aging homes let them in. Our rodent control removes them and seals the openings so new ones cannot follow.

Signs to watch for: noises in the ceiling after dark and droppings in the attic or garage.

Coral Springs residents also call us about American and German cockroaches (see our cockroach guide), spiders in pool enclosures, fleas brought in by pets, bed bugs after travel, and wildlife such as iguanas along canal banks, raccoons and opossums.

Residential Pest Control in Coral Springs

Coral Springs homes tend to fall into two groups. The older neighborhoods from the city’s first decades have mature trees, older roofs and slabs, and in many cases original wood that termites have had years to find. Newer communities toward the Sawgrass Expressway are closer to open land and the Everglades, so they see more mosquitoes, fire ants and wildlife. Many of them share lakes or canals, irrigated lawns and the expectation of a well-kept yard.

Our residential pest control begins with a free inspection inside and out. Your technician looks at the slab, the attic, the roofline, the lanai and the lawn, finds the pests and their entry points, and explains what is attracting them. We then recommend a plan for the house, the yard or both. Regular visits keep a barrier in place, and our 110% Satisfaction Guarantee means that if the bugs come back, so will Toro, at no additional cost to you.

If you are buying in one of the older sections of the city, add a termite inspection to your checklist. It is inexpensive and can uncover hidden damage before you close.

Coral Springs Pest Control FAQ

Do you cover all of Coral Springs?

Yes. We serve the entire city, from the original neighborhoods near Sample Road and University Drive to Ramblewood, Maplewood, Cypress Run, Eagle Trace, Wyndham Lakes and the communities along the Sawgrass Expressway, in ZIP codes 33065, 33067, 33071, 33073 and 33076. Response within 24 hours is guaranteed.

My HOA is strict about lawns. Can you help keep the grass healthy?

Yes. Coral Springs is known for tight rules on landscaping, so brown patches get noticed. Chinch bugs and other pests can damage St. Augustine grass quickly, especially in sunny, water-stressed spots. Our lawn spray service targets those pests on a schedule, and we can coordinate with your landscaper on irrigation and mowing.

Does living on a lake or canal raise my termite risk?

It can. The invasive Formosan and Asian subterranean termites need moisture, and waterfront soil, sprinklers and downspouts that drain toward the slab all help them. A 2026 University of Florida study found that a 2016 forecast remains on track: about half of urban South Florida structures could be at risk from one or both species by around 2040. Regular inspections give you an early warning.

My house was built in the 1970s or 1980s. Should I worry about drywood termites?

It is worth checking. Drywood termites can live for years inside roof framing, door and window frames and furniture without touching the soil, and older homes have had many swarm seasons of exposure. Pellet piles near wood are the classic sign. We can tell you whether spot treatment or fumigation makes sense.

Can you provide pest control for an HOA, office park or medical building?

Yes. We work with homeowner associations, condo boards, office buildings, medical facilities, restaurants and retail centers across Coral Springs, with scheduled service, monitoring and written reports.

Is the inspection free, and does someone speak Spanish?

Yes. Your first inspection is free, new customers get $25 off the first service, and our team speaks Spanish. Call 305-594-4767 or use the Free Inspection form on this page.
