Pest Control in Sea Ranch Lakes, FL

Sea Ranch Lakes is one of the smallest municipalities in Broward County: a gated residential village wrapped around two freshwater lakes, plus a grocery-anchored shopping center on State Road A1A. Lakefront yards, mature landscaping and a busy retail center just outside the gate create two very different sets of pest problems in a fraction of a square mile. Toro Pest Management has protected South Florida since 1969, and we fit each plan to the home or business in front of us.

Why Sea Ranch Lakes Has Its Own Pest Challenges

Sea Ranch Lakes is a village on North Ocean Drive (State Road A1A) in eastern Broward County, surrounded by Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. It covers only about 0.2 square miles, and the 2020 census counted 540 residents. The land changed hands during the Great Depression, when R.H. Gore, who bought the Fort Lauderdale News in 1929, reportedly acquired the oceanfront tract. The Sea Ranch Cabana Club opened in 1939 on 45 acres with 1,800 feet of seashore, followed by the Sea Ranch Hotel in 1940. That is where “Sea Ranch” comes from, while “Lakes” refers to the village’s two artificial freshwater lakes. The gated residential community was developed in 1956, and residents incorporated the village on October 6, 1959, to avoid being annexed by a larger neighbor.

The village works differently from most cities. Most of it is a gated community bordered by the Intracoastal Waterway and built around the two lakes, and a private beach club owns the roads, parks and lakes. The guardhouse at the entrance on Gatehouse Drive is actually the village police station. Residential power lines run underground, and the homes use septic systems. Just outside the residential area, but still inside village limits, Sea Ranch Centre is a grocery-anchored shopping center of roughly 99,000 square feet on A1A, just north of Commercial Boulevard.

For pests, that means two worlds side by side. On the residential side, lakes, decades-old homes and mature landscaping keep soil moist and give termites, rodents, mosquitoes and iguanas plenty of habitat. On the commercial side, food, deliveries, dumpsters and steady foot traffic create the classic conditions for rats and cockroaches. Because the two are so close together, a problem in one can spread to the other.

Common Pests in Sea Ranch Lakes and Why They Show Up

Drywood Termites

Homes built in the decades after 1956 have weathered many swarm seasons. Drywood termites fly in from March through June and settle into attic framing, eaves, window frames, cabinets and furniture without any soil contact. When colonies are spread through a house, tenting is often the practical solution.

Signs to watch for: tiny pellet piles that look like sand near wood.

Subterranean Termites

Lakefront soil and irrigated yards stay damp, which is what the Formosan and Asian subterranean termites need. Asian subterranean swarms come in March around sunset, Formosan swarms from late April. A 2026 University of Florida study found that a forecast of about half of urban South Florida structures being at risk from these species by around 2040 remains on track.

Roof Rats

With power lines underground, roof rats rely on palms, fruit trees, hedges and fences to reach the roof, and the shopping center's food and dumpsters are close by. Once in the attic, they chew wiring and contaminate insulation. Our rodent control traps, excludes and monitors.

Signs to watch for: droppings, gnawed fruit and noises in the ceiling at night.

Cockroaches

German cockroaches thrive in grocery stores, restaurant kitchens and stockrooms, and they ride in on deliveries and packaging. American cockroaches live in drains, mulch and sewer lines and wander indoors at night, in homes and businesses alike. See our cockroach guide.

Mosquitoes and No-see-ums

Two lakes, the Intracoastal and summer rain give mosquitoes plenty of breeding water. The Aedes aegypti breeds in containers near the house and bites in daylight. Close to the coast, no-see-ums bite around dusk and dawn and slip through standard screens. Our mosquito control treats breeding and resting sites.

Iguanas

Lake banks, the Intracoastal edge and lush landscaping are ideal for green iguanas. Their burrows can erode banks and undermine walkways and foundations, and they feed on flowers, fruit and ornamental plants. Our wildlife service removes them and helps keep them from settling back in.

Sea Ranch Lakes residents and businesses also call us about ghost and white-footed ants, whiteflies on hedges, spiders and wasps around eaves and pool areas, birds on store rooftops and signs, and drain cleaning for commercial drains that breed flies.

Residential Pest Control in Sea Ranch Lakes

A home in Sea Ranch Lakes often combines a lake view, mature trees and a house that may have been remodeled over the years. Each feature matters. Lakefront edges hold moisture and shelter mosquitoes and iguanas, trees and hedges give rats a path to the roof, and renovations can leave gaps around pipes, vents and rooflines that pests find before homeowners do.

Our residential pest control begins with a free inspection of the inside of the home, the attic and garage, the yard and the lakefront. We identify the pests, find their entry points and the conditions that attract them, then recommend a plan that fits your home. We arrange gate access ahead of time, so your visit runs smoothly. For residents who serve on community boards, we can also look at shared spaces such as the beach club, pool areas and parks. Regular service keeps protection in place throughout the year, and our 110% Satisfaction Guarantee means that if the bugs come back, so will Toro, at no additional cost to you.

Planning to buy or renovate? Schedule a termite inspection first. Opening walls in an older home is a perfect moment to find and treat hidden termite damage.

Sea Ranch Lakes Pest Control FAQ

Can you get through the gate to service my home?

Yes. Sea Ranch Lakes is a gated community, and we schedule visits in advance and follow the village's entry procedures so our technician is expected at the gate. We serve every home in the village and the businesses on A1A, all in ZIP code 33308, with a guaranteed response within 24 hours.

Why do I see more mosquitoes on the lake side of my yard?

The village's two lakes and the plants along their edges hold moisture and shelter mosquitoes, and summer rain refills every container in the yard. The Aedes aegypti mosquito, which bites in the daytime, breeds in small amounts of water such as plant saucers, bromeliads and pool covers. Emptying containers weekly and treating resting areas makes a noticeable difference.

My home is from the 1950s or 1960s. Do I need a termite inspection?

It is a good idea. The gated residential community was developed starting in 1956, so many homes have been through decades of swarm seasons. Older wood attracts drywood termites, and the moist soil around the lakes suits Formosan and Asian subterranean termites. A free inspection identifies which species, if any, are present.

Do you service the shopping center and its stores?

Yes. We provide commercial pest control for grocery stores, restaurants, retail shops and property managers, with rodent and cockroach programs, detailed reports for inspectors and service timed around store hours.

What can I do about iguanas on the lake bank?

Green iguanas dig burrows that can erode banks and undermine walkways and foundations, and they eat flowers and landscape plants. Our wildlife service removes them and helps you close burrows and make your yard less inviting.

Is the inspection free, and does your team speak Spanish?

Yes. The first inspection is free, new customers get $25 off their first service, and we speak Spanish. Call 305-594-4767 or use the Free Inspection form on this page.
