Riviera Beach began as a fishing town and now runs on the water in a bigger way, with the Port of Palm Beach on the mainland side, Marina Village on the Intracoastal and the condo towers of Singer Island across the lagoon. Cargo, boats and salt air shape what pests do here. Toro Pest Management has protected South Florida businesses and families since 1969, and we build Riviera Beach plans around the waterfront.

Fishing Families, a Busy Port and Singer Island: Riviera Beach Today
Riviera Beach has always lived off the water. In the early 1900s fishermen, many of them Bahamian families nicknamed conchs, lived at a squatters’ settlement called Inlet City on the south end of what is now Singer Island, drying their cotton nets on the sand. The colony moved to the mainland around 1919. On September 29, 1922, the Town of Riviera was incorporated after 17 of 26 qualified voters said yes. By the 1920s it ranked among the largest fish suppliers on Florida’s east coast, with much of the catch going to Fulton’s Fish Market in New York. “Beach” joined the name in the early 1940s, and it became a city in 1959.
The 2020 census counted 37,604 residents and 17,868 housing units over roughly 9.7 square miles, about 1.4 of them water. Two very different places share that area. On the mainland are older neighborhoods, the Port of Palm Beach, the city marina and the commercial streets along Blue Heron Boulevard. To the east, past the Lake Worth Lagoon, most of Singer Island lies within the city; Palm Beach Shores takes the southern tip. The island is named for Paris Singer, whose 1920s resort plan collapsed with the land boom.
That mix gives pests plenty of openings. Rain at Palm Beach International Airport, a few miles to the south, normally tops 60 inches a year, most of it from May through October. Ships, pleasure boats, trucks and cruise passengers arrive constantly, the lagoon keeps soil and seawalls damp, and high-rise condos share plumbing and trash rooms. Pest work here has to cover the docks, the waterfront and the home front.
Riviera Beach Business Pest Control: Port, Marina and Hospitality
The Port of Palm Beach, created in 1915, sits in Riviera Beach on about 165 acres and calls itself the fourth busiest container port in Florida. Around 80 percent of its cargo is exported, mostly to Caribbean island nations, and food is the leading export. It also handles bulk goods such as diesel fuel, molasses and liquid asphalt, and it is the homeport of the Margaritaville at Sea Paradise cruise ship. The port says more than 3,500 people work directly because of it. Food cargo, wooden pallets and busy docks are exactly the conditions rodents and roaches want.
Waterfront recreation adds a second layer. Marina Village, Phil Foster Park, the boats running to Peanut Island, Singer Island hotels and restaurants, and Rapids Water Park all see heavy public use. Businesses like these handle food, trash and crowds, and customers notice a problem fast. Nature is close by as well: John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, with its hammock and mangroves, and the mangrove edges of the lagoon bring wildlife and biting insects near the buildings. The FPL Manatee Lagoon center and the Coast Guard station round out a waterfront where almost every property deals with moisture, salt and traffic.
We provide commercial pest control for:
- Warehouses and distribution centers serving port cargo.
- Food and beverage processors and exporters.
- Restaurants and food service at the marina and along the beach.
- Hotels and vacation rentals, with attention to bed bugs and roaches.
- Transportation operations and retail stores.
- Property managers and condo associations on Singer Island and the mainland.
- Schools and government buildings.
Commercial accounts get documented service, with device maps and written reports for audits and inspectors. Technicians train at the TORO Institute at our Miami headquarters, where our on-staff entomologists teach food safety, sanitation and pest management techniques.
Dockside and Beachside Pests in Riviera Beach
Norway and Roof Rats
Norway rats burrow along foundations and seawalls, while roof rats climb palms, racking and pipes. Dumpsters and pallet stacks keep both fed. Our rodent control uses exclusion, exterior stations and documented monitoring for businesses and homes alike.
Signs to watch for: gnawed cartons, greasy rub marks and burrows along slabs.
German and American Cockroaches
German cockroaches ride in on boxes and live in warm kitchens, break rooms and condo plumbing chases. Larger American cockroaches come up from sewers and storm drains. Baiting and sanitation solve more than spraying does; see our cockroach guide.
Signs to watch for: pepper-like droppings near hinges and roaches at night around drains.
Stored-Product Pests
Beetles and moths that feed on flour, rice, spices and pet food can arrive in one infested load and spread through dry storage. With so much food moving through Riviera Beach, monitoring traps and stock rotation are basic protection for food warehouses and pantries.
Signs to watch for: small moths in aisles, webbing in bags and pinholes in packaging.
Invasive Termites
UF/IFAS describes the Asian subterranean termite as very common from Key West to neighboring West Palm Beach, and a 2025 study showed that boats can carry it along with Formosan and West Indian drywood termites. Marinas, seawalls and older mainland houses all deserve regular termite inspections.
Signs to watch for: mud tubes, discarded wings on sills and pellets under wood.
Mosquitoes
Boat covers, tires, planters and storm drains give the Aedes aegypti mosquito places to breed, and the lagoon's edges add more biting insects after high water. Our mosquito control removes sources and treats shady resting spots near homes and patios.
Signs to watch for: daytime biting in yards and larvae wriggling in containers.
Bed Bugs
Hotels, rentals, cruise passengers and apartment turnovers keep bed bugs moving through Riviera Beach in luggage and furniture. Early detection keeps one room from turning into a whole floor, so we inspect neighboring units too.
Signs to watch for: rust-colored spots on mattress seams and bites in lines.
Riviera Beach customers also call us about green iguanas burrowing along seawalls (see our wildlife services), birds on dock canopies, ants, spiders on boat lifts and whiteflies on coconut palms.
From Singer Island Towers to Mainland Houses: Riviera Beach Homes
A condo on Singer Island and a mainland house need different plans. In a high-rise, the concerns are shared walls, trash chutes, garages and balconies, and salt wind that wears down door sweeps and screens. We work with associations and managers so treatments cover the whole stack of units, not just the one that called.
On the mainland, older homes deserve a careful look at wood trim, attic vents and slab edges. Fruit trees, palms and overgrown lots give roof rats cover, and storm drains bring American cockroaches close to the door. Homes near the port and commercial streets can also see more rodent pressure from nearby dumpsters and truck traffic, so we check garages, sheds and fence lines with extra care.
Every residential pest control visit starts with a free inspection indoors and out. We identify what you have and why it is there, then suggest a plan that suits the property and your budget. For waterfront owners we add a look at seawalls, docks and stored boat gear. Our 110% Satisfaction Guarantee means that if the bugs come back, so will Toro, at no additional cost to you.
Ask about a termite inspection if you are buying near the water, because moisture and old wood can hide trouble for years.

Do you cover both Singer Island and the mainland side of Riviera Beach?
Yes. We serve Singer Island, Marina Village, the Blue Heron Boulevard corridor and the mainland neighborhoods, with 33404 as the city's core ZIP code and parts of 33403, 33407, 33410 and 33418 as well. Response within 24 hours is guaranteed.
How do pests get into a port or cargo warehouse?
Mostly with the freight and through the doors. Pallets, cartons and food loads can carry roaches and stored-product insects, and rats follow the food. Open doors, worn dock seals and clutter along the walls do the rest. Exclusion, monitoring devices and good housekeeping work together, and we document each step.
Can termites really travel on boats?
Yes. A 2025 UF/IFAS study found that private boats can carry Formosan, Asian subterranean and West Indian drywood termites. With marinas on both sides of the lagoon, boat owners here should check cabins and wood trim, and waterfront buildings should be inspected regularly.
Our Singer Island condo building has roaches moving between units. What helps?
Treating the building as one system. German cockroaches follow plumbing lines and shared walls, so we inspect the trash rooms, chases and problem units together, then place baits and set a follow-up schedule with the association or manager.
Who sprays for mosquitoes in Riviera Beach?
Palm Beach County Mosquito Control takes service requests online and verifies the problem before treating. We work on the private side, finding breeding sites and treating resting areas in your yard or around your building.
Is the inspection free, and is there Spanish-speaking staff?
Yes on both. Your first inspection is free, new customers get $25 off the first service, and our team speaks Spanish. Call 305-594-4767 or use the Free Inspection form on this page.
